Shawn Marion is offering up his own injury update, but the Mavs aren’t alone in their training-room concerns. Tonight’s opponent, the Detroit Pistons, have themselves an injury so crazy they are wondering if they are “in a James Bond movie.’’
Quick details in this Mavs Afternoon Drive report:
* Marion won’t play tonight, and isn’t going to push it for most of the rest of the preseason while he nurses that sore calf.
“I want to just play through this, but it's one of those injuries that they tell me if I don't let it heal completely it will keep lingering," Marion said at the Thursday morning shootaround. "I don't want it to linger. When I came back the first time it was still hurting me a little bit, but I was trying to fight through it and I actually tweaked it a little bit more and it started hurting more. Now I'm just working on rehabbing
* Marion will join Josh Howard (ankle) in street clothes tonight.
* Tayshaun Prince came to town listed as ‘’questionable’’ for the game with a cut on the bottom of his foot.
“What an unusual injury,” said Detroit coach John Kuester, who even joked that he thought someone must have been wearing steel-toe boots. “I thought we were in a James Bond movie. When I saw the blood I went, ‘My gosh, what happened.’ He’s going to be all right, but it’s an unusual place to have a cut.”
* Charlie Villanueva (hamstring) is listed as “doubtful.’’
* Mavs coach Rick Carlisle will meet the media today at 6 p.m., as the Mavs locker room will open. We’ll have a report from the AAC shortly thereafter.
