The Mavs ended Friday’s morning working with their minds on: Fan Jam. … 3-pointers … Dirk’s “little brother’’ in Orlando … and we’ve got all the audio. The fellas in their own words – Dirk Nowitzki and Rick Carlisle -- it’s Training Day: AUDIO at the AAC:
DIRK FOR 3: Nowitzki with an in-depth analysis of his work from the arc:
“The last couple of years, I’ve made an emphasis not to shoot bad 3’s,” Nowitzki said. “I think teams are really closing out on me. Obviously they know that we only have a handful of shooters on the team, so they’ve done a good job of finding the guys that can shoot. So I’m not going to jack up 3’s just because I feel like it, but if it’s a good shot I’m definitely going to take it.”
Is there a better way of taking advantage of what is certainly a strength of The UberMan?
“I think that with the running that Shawn and Josh bring, I’m hoping that it opens up some transition 3’s for me,’’ Dirk said. “Actually for me, transition 3’s are the best because you walk right into them, you have a rhythm to it, and sometimes spot-up 3’s are not as easy because you don’t walk into them.’’
CARLISLE ON THE MAGIC: The Mavs play their first preseason game at the AAC on Oct. 5 against Eastern Conference champion Orlando. Carlisle is starting to think toward Monday.
“When we get Orlando coming in here on Monday, that will be a great test for us,” Carlisle said. “They’re a Finals team. They’re extremely potent offensively, and they were No. 1 in the league in defensive points per possession, so it will be good to tee it up against them and find out where we are.’’
SPEAKING OF ORLANDO: BROTHER VS. BROTHER: Nowitzki is also looking forward to Monday night’s pre-season opener against Orlando … because of the return of ex-mate Brandon Bass.
“Bass was like my little brother when he was here,’’ Dirk said. “It was sad to see him go.”
FISHELLANEOUS: It’s Fan Jam tonight at the AAC presented by 103.3 ESPN Radio. Doors open to the public at 6:45. This will be your first glimpse of this Mavs team in action as they do the Blue-White scrimmage thing. Free to the public ($5 to park) and we know some DB.commers will hang in Section 101. …
